Many people who call “Animation Guy” production studios ask for a quote on animation work for their projects. Many of them are do not understand the process of animation, production-wiser or budget-wise, and are shocked by the numbers.
We like to explain to them that if they are picking the pricey route of having animation or an animated bit in their project it must be justified – a means to an end.
For example, if someone has written a drama which tells a simple story easily filmed with live action actors on set or on location, then why chose the route of animation? Can it be done without animation? Will the animation be an inseparable or otherwise too valuable an asset to the style of the film? Basically, is it justified?
Many directors and creators think that animation would make their story better, and sometimes they are right, but we do not encourage people to chose it for the wrong reasons, because many of our clients pay out of pocket and this kind of expenditure might be unnecessary, or too costly for them, to the point where they will not recoup.
That said, we are also flexible and are here to help, so when a client asks us for a quote, after hearing what they think of the numbers, we also offer different solutions and routs to go about their projects, and if we like their project, we find ways to work with their budget in a way that makes them happy without compromising their artistic or otherwise integrity.
